Often our guests are of a sporty nature and it really brings home to me how much there is in Waterford for the sports enthusiast. At the Viking Hotel we have welcomed all kinds of sporting groups from Soccer, Gaelic Football & Hurling to golfers and runners. The tournaments and facilities really are second to none!
WIT Arena
WIT Arena is the largest sports, conference and events centre in the South East of Ireland. The Viking hotel is 2km from the Arena and so we tend to see all kinds of Sporting groups from table tennis, Irish dancing to boxing! The arena also boasts a state-of-the-art gym which holds all kinds of fitness classes regularly.
Waterford Greenway
The ‘Waterford Greenway’ has a starting point at WIT Arena and is perfect if you are a cycling enthusiast. The Greenway is a 46km path along the route of an old railway line from Dungarvan to Waterford and a fantastic way to view the countryside while being healthy! Visitors and locals alike use the Greenway in rain or shine. Bikes can be rented at the WIT Arena if required. At the Viking Hotel; we also have a new Bike Store called ‘The Greenway Hub’ that store guests’ bikes securely should they wish to bring their own.
Dunmore Adventure
Dunmore Adventure is located just 20 minutes from The Viking Hotel in the fishing village of Dunmore East on the mouth of the Waterford Harbour. If you are looking for anything to do with Watersports this really delivers the thrill you are seeking! Dunmore Adventure offer Kayaking, Windsurfing, Sea Kayaking not to mention the fantastic ‘Wibit Wipeout; there is so much to do there! Dunmore adventure offer something for all the family.
Kilcohan Greyhound Stadium
Kilcohan Greyhound Stadium is just 5 minutes from the Viking Hotel and is popular with visitors. If spectating is more your style when it comes to Sport; Kilcohan offers a great night out for family, friends or corporate groups. The racing is held at different times throughout the week and reservations can be made for the restaurant for race nights.
Golf
There are quite a few Golf Courses surrounding Waterford of note. Tramore Golf Course is nearby and built on rolling terrain. Waterford Castle Golf Course is the only true island golf course resort in Ireland and can only be accessed by Ferry. Waterford Golf Club Course is situated on a hill overlook Waterford City. It is a Parkland Course and again has fantastic views.
